Overview:

The Nature's Resort is a renovated colonial bungalow along with mordern A/C cabanas situated in Waga in Colombo district, within close proximity to Labugama/Kalatuwawa Reservoir/Rainforest and Idikada Mukalana Rainforest. While much of original Native Vegetation still exist within the property near the colonial bungalow, increasingly the native vegetation around the back side of the property is gradually being cleared. In addition to gradually declining habitat, the management's decision to open the doors to hundreds of day visitors during weekends, has created severe Trash Pollution and Noise Pollution issue within the nature resort. In fact, during most weekends, one cannot see or hear birds but only the loud music and hence The Nature's Resort does not live up to it's name.

Non-Intrusion of Forest Buffer Zones:

The Nature's Resort is situated in a residential/estate area in Waga. While relatively close to Idikada Mukalana Rainforest and Labugama/Kalatuwawa Reservoir/Rainforest it is well outside the buffer zones. Google Map

Habitat Loss Prevention:

The Nature's Resort is gradually loosing it's Nature to expansion of the resort and it's infrastructure.

Native Vegetation:

While much of original Native Vegetation still exist within the property near the colonial bungalow, increasingly the native vegetation around the back side of the property is gradually being cleared.

Trash Pollution Control & Recycling:

During weekends, Trash Pollution is quite evident as hundreds of day visitors from Colombo enter The Nature's Resort. The hotel staff cannot keep up with the trash been thrown by these visitors and only cleanup at night once the day visitors leave. Further no recycling initiative or composting is being done.

Light & Noise Pollution Control:

Noise pollution is extremely high during weekends when day visitors from Colombo enter The Nature's Resort and loud music is being played in the garden. Birds cannot be spotted or heard and it's extremely harmful to the Nature.

Bio-Diversity Conservation Projects:

To date, The Nature's Resort has not been active in supporting Bio-Diversity Conservation Projects in the surrounding area. Due to it being located within close proximity to Labugama/Kalatuwawa Reservoir/Rainforest and Idikada Mukalana Rainforest, the management should do better to support Habitat enrichment through Native Tree Planting projects in the surrounding area as well as educating the guests and villagers about Bio-Diversity Conservation.
